    Default Just Another Hello Thread

Hello, my name is Brad and I am 23 years old. I have been interested in shaving with a straight razor for a while now. I've been trying to do as much research as possible and finally took the plunge and I ordered a set of gear.

I ordered my gear from thewellshavedgentleman.com and got the DOVO 5/8 "Solingen Best Quality" razor with a hanging strop and a 4 sided paddle strop for about $180.
I found out about this website after lurking through these forums for a little while. I'm still waiting to get the set in the mail (I am a military member stationed in Germany) so it's going to be a few days.

I just thought I'd introduce myself to everyone and hopefully find some good newbie tutorials (I've found several already, but can't ever have too many ).

    Nice to meet you all.

    -Brad

Hello Brad and welcome to SRP! You will enjoy the razor from Tony Miller and his strops. He does real good work.

The founder of this Forum. Lynn Abrams, has made a DVD, about 3 hours worth of info and instructions on just about every aspect of str8 shaving. It will answer about 90% of your questions. Go to the Buy/Sell/Trade forum and there is a "sticky" where you can order it. It is also available from www.classicshaving.com

Service to your family? Clarification please!

I am in the Air Force and I am a Network Engineer/Technician (99.9% of the stuff I use is Cisco) I also have a very strong background in computers (Over 20 years, and yes that means I was 3 when I started).

Thanks. I just sent Lynn the money via PayPal so I hope to get that at the end of this week or next week. I read the thread and heard nothing but positive comments so it sounds really great.

For me "Thank you for your service" is short for
    1. "Thank you for your service to our country".
    2. "Thank you for your sacrifice" (most everyone that has served understands that one), and
    3. "Thank you for the sacrifice that your family has made"
I always say on behalf of my family because if they were here they'd make the same statement. I served 4 years in the USAF, my wife served 9 in the USAF, my dad served 4 on active duty with the National Guard during Korea, my maternal grandfather joined the Navy when he was 16 at the beginning of WWI. My Uncle was a decorated Navy vet during WWII in the Pacific theater. Since all that are left are my wife and I, I take it upon myself to thank any vet (active or not) that I have the opportunity to on their behalf.

When I came here I flew into Rhein-Mein, it has since been given back to the Germans, no US troops are stationed there anymore. I am stationed at Ramstein Air Base, been here for almost four years now.

Thanks for the clarification. This thankfulness to the people that serve in the armed forces is alien to the Dutch, at least I have never heard of anyone feeling thankfulness to someone who is serving in the armed forces.
