Introduction and First Straight Shave
I've been lurking for a little while, and now that I've had my first complete straight razor shave, thought I join and say hi.
The setup:
-Dovo Classic "Special" 4/8 Black from ClassicShaving.com, honed by Lynn
-Williams Mug Shaving soap in a Burma Shave mug
-Generic brush from a local drugstore (Mug, brush, and soap I already had for my DE razor)
-POS strop from ebay (bought before I knew better, and thinking something as simple as a strop would be hard for anyone to screw up. I may rant on this later.) If I'm careful, it is functional, but will be replaced next payday.
The first straight shave:
- A very smooth "end product." Slightly, but noticeably, smoother than with my DE razor.
- A very mild razor burn, reminiscent of when I first shaved off my goatee after having it for years. I believe this will stop after my face gets used to a straight razor. It may also be related to my technique, as it's mostly on the "curves" (jawline, chin, etc.) and the spot on my neck where the whiskers grow in multiple directions (that spot's tricky with my DE too). Should be fixed with experience.
-One or two "weepers" on my chin. Probably also technique related. Stopped with a styptic pencil, should also be fixed with experience.
All in all, I am very satisfied, and will continue with the straight razor.

Thanked: 2209Hello Jake and welcome to the SRP forums! It sounds like your doing just fine ( better than I did!). My only suggestion would be to ditch the Williams soap and use a better quality. It does make a world of difference.
