Thanked: 1Will it still work?
After reading the pro's and con's on carbon steel vs stainless steel razors and with me being a first time straight razor user I had decided it was best to go with a carbon steel razor. Being excited on the day of purchase I forgot the rule of thumb concerning aesthetics vs function and I mindlessly chose a more "pretty" one without realizing I bought a (DOVO Genuine Ebony & "Silver Steel" 5/8) SS until it was (sent to Mr. Abrams about a week ago) too late.
Is this still going to work or should I recoup whatever I can from a resell and get a carbon razor?
Thanks in advance,
-D. Levesque

I don't believe that I own a single stainless razor, but being a Dovo, I don't think there should be a problem!

Thanked: 1587I agree. And what's more, there's absolutely nothing wrong with SS. I have one or two - slightly longer to hone but keeps an edge, on average, longer than a carbon.
I'd say it's all good

You'll be very happy with a Lynn-honed SS. I had a vintage Dovo INOX that he honed for me that was outstanding!
Welcome aboard!

Thanked: 1Hello Gentlemen,
Thanks for the encouraging words (and warm welcome!).
Had read somewhere that some experienced users generally lean towards SS so I worked myself into a bit of a tizzy thinking I messed-up royally but seeing that you guys think otherwise I'll now look forward to receiving it, slowly learning how to master the Art of the Straight Shave!
Thanks again,

The hard part is already done, choosing your first blade , and being new a SS will have some bennies, like less issues of rust...
Welcome and enjoy to company, I sure do

Thanked: 0You should be just fine. If you don't like the razor you can sell it later, but I agree with the others that things are fine for you ...
