    Default Wish me luck!

Hello everyone. I've done my lurking. I spoke with Jim Ayers at Vintage Blade yesterday and placed an order for my first str8 and strop and DVD from Lynn A.. I found Jim very helpful, encouraging and an all around gentleman. I wanted to thank everyone who is willing to instruct and experiment and "learn the hard way!" OK. Back to my research!

No luck needed. Just watch the DVD and do what Lynn does. Respect the tool and it will do what you want it to do.

Good luck and have fun and keep the styptic pencil handy. Likely you'll be more adept than I was when I returned to straight shaving, but the occasional nick seems inevitable and being prepared never hurts. You're right, Jim Ayars is a wonderful guy to deal with.

Did you order a shave ready razor? Hopefully you did, as getting the mechanics of honing a razor down seems to be somewhat a daunting process for the tyro. (I, the tyro, know ) Touching up a razor to maintain the edge seems to be significantly easier than establishing the edge.

Let us know how it goes, Bruce

Well, my first shave was very thrilling... and abundant with cuts and nicks

So - take your time and respect the razor. Sometimes luck may help - but you should still be prepared - theoretically, practically, physically, and mentally

    Cheers

<Did you order a shave ready razor?> Yes Bruce, after talking with Jim A. I will have a Abrams sharpened DOVO in hand soon. He's also sending a razor to practice honing on.
izlat I agree, education is key. I look forward to learning.
