Thanked: 335Epiphany
Gentleshavers,
I have variously reported that my attempts at honing have met with what I consider dismal success. A couple of days ago I received in the mail an unremarkable but shave-ready razor which I bought from a very reputable ebay dealer. I shaved with it this morning - with not the best results. Now my observations here must not be construed as commenting negatively on either the seller or the razor, rather that the shave readiness of this razor has approximately the same shave-worthiness that I have been able to get from my attempts at honing.
Thus my epiphany is that it seems possible that I actually may be treading down the right path toward this near mytical ability to get a razor sharp enough to easily and comfortably shave with.
Oh the joy of it, Bruce

"Shave-Ready" is definately a very realtive statement, expecially from Ebay sellers. I've bought a few here at SRP from members that would also apply.
The answer: Learn to hone your own until you skills are up to your own standard you can live with. - or send them out to a reputable honmeister.
Yea, when I see "shave-ready", I say,"Yea, right". To me it just means the blade is realtively clean and the edge might be in fair to descent shape, but not "Shave-Ready"!

It's a HUGE epiphany. In my head I was having all sorts of crazy and mythological expectations of what a shave ready razor should feel like. I would curse razors that would resist when going ATG on my chin, yet I would get similar resistance with a Feather blade in a Merkur Slant razor. That's when the light went on for me.
