Great to hear you're doing so well. I'm sure we can work out some way to hone that nick out of the Wapi. I bet the Norton at Kriton's would be the way to go, though. Let me know if you need me or if we're all getting together.

Thanked: 0I'm all for a second meetup, if you guys are interested.
We could do a get-together at the same bat-place, same bat-time, or try somewhere else. I'd love a honing demo, and could provide a razor for that demo.
First Saturday of October is the 7th...

Thanked: 0Well let me tell you...
That little get together with ScreaminZ was not as smooth as one might hope - I decided to try and square up his little barber hones from Tilly on my Norton lapping stone (fortunately after flattening his new Norton).
Those barber hones, unbeknownst to me, made a *bowl* out of my lapping stone - I was shocked - I am just glad that Z caught it - he noticed his barber hones were not sitting flat on each other, sure enough, I looked at the Norton and it was seriously and noticeably scooped out where I had been rubbing those hones together. Amazing. I spent a good 20 minutes yesterday with several course of wet dry sandpaper and a flat marble tile getting that mistake out...excellent learning opportunity.
The WAPI I worked on with Z I shaved with last night, and it was something to behold, worked exceptionally well. I did not have the same luck with his razor, and I am sorry for that - I would be more than happy to do a "demonstration" but I am not a honemeister, just a slob with stones and a healthy desire to do my own honing, dammit. As I suggested to Z though, send one away - get a feel for pro sharp before you try to start doing them yourself, you will be surprised at how dull you will accept a razor over time, until you get a really sharp one and realize what they are supposed to feel like.
I am game to do a get together, I think I would prefer someplace else, and as Z found out, my little shop is pretty small. Don't where else we could go for some time to work on these things - any suggestions?

Thanked: 0I had a blast this last weekend when we got together at Kriton's place. I learned a lot and had fun practicing with my blades. I sat down yesterday with an old IXL blade that was too dull to shave with and started going at it on the new Norton. It sort-of passes the HHT, depending on the particular hair that I use. Anyway, I shaved with it later in the afternoon and actually managed to get a nice, comfortable shave. I'm definitely on the path to success. Thanks, Kriton!
I'm all for another gathering. BJ's worked out pretty good last time and wasn't too crowded. I think that would be a great place to meet again. If we need a more private place with some more space to lay our stuff out, I could probably work out some space in Ft. Worth. Just let me know if I should check into that.

Not to thread jack, but I have access to the VDH pucks. If anyone wants them, I can buy/ship at cost. I don't remember exactly what it is, but I think they're $3ish/puck.
