I remain humble, but I think I'm beginning to make progress!
I've been applying all the great advice here and using a combination of my DE and my DOVO. Trying to keep the lather moist and consistent. Conditioning my beard before shaving; after a shower of course. Small light strokes with the blade and switching to the DE where my technique needs to improve. After I've got a BBS, I'll check my beard with a little water on my fingers and if I feel I can pull it off, use the srt8 to clean it up. Sure some very small nicks happen but nothing major. I find I'll still get a little nervous in some areas but it's a little easier each time. Confidence plays a major part with my nerves but I am ever mindful of the respect for the blade. I am learning to love this gentlemen and I want to thank you all for your help and support.

That's why we're here bud.
Do you try to achieve BBS on every shave? May take some time for your skin to adapt to the STR8 on ATG passes. WIll take time.

Yes, I try for the BBS each time. Guess that's too much? With the inquires by so many newbies into just this issue, somebody needs to do some research and writing into the science of skin and it's adaptation to str8 shaving. I'm sure most guys don't give a darn but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious. Thanks for the input.

I find that every third shave I can try for the BBS. I have been at it for about 3 months now. My skin is getting better, but more-so my technique. An overlooked obstacle is the lather, pay attention to that, it really does protect the skin! I think all skin types are different when attempting BBS. I have also noticed that the razors edge and hair growth play a huge role in straight shaving as well.
