Default Hello from someone that is considering the move from DE to Straight

Hey Folks. Thank you for this site. I picked up my first straight today and will PM Lynn about a hone. I have been a DE shaver for about 6-8 months and am really considering the next step. I believe I had a good day at the antique store and found a beautiful Henkels today for $13.50. Now off to the honemeister, and away I go!

Looks like the edge is in good shape , although it may need a few laps on a 1000 grit hone to reestablish the bevel . And it needs a good cleaning , but for $13.50 , I think you got a good deal . Do you have a good strop , yet ?

As I said on B&B - I try to stay away from the sex toys. But I know a strop is next.

And of course you'll need an 8k or finer hone and/or a pasted paddle strop (sounds a little kinky , too ) to refresh the edge , when need be .

    Hey Seamus -
Good to see you in the land of the straights! I think you've been hangin' out over at B&B if I've got the right guy. Looks like you found yourself a real beauty in that razor.... My suggestion is to do a lot of reading (esp the stickies) and then go for it - nice and easy like - and you'll do just fine.
    Welcome!

    Seamus,
Welcome to the "other" side! I started to move this way about 2 1/2 months ago. I think you will like it here. Lota of good, helpful people and tons of experience to learn from.

Now you know why I've been selling all those DE's.
