Newbie intro
Hello everyone!
Just recently found this board after spending time at Badger & Blade. I'm 54 yr old and started shaving back in the 60's with my first razor being a DE. Followed the trend from trac-II up through Fusion. Disatisfied with the shave and price, I began looking for something better. That search led me to B&B where I ended up getting a Mekur 38c and have been getting some of the best shaves in years!
Looking to get started with a straight razor after lurking here awhile and reading many threads. Currently talking with heavydutysg135 on a shave ready 5/8 Genco he has available.
Have spend a fair amount of time obsessing on woodworking chisels spending weeks honing/polishing them with Norton 4000/8000 up thru 10,000+ water stones and then with extremely fine diamond powder on leather. My test for sharpness was to shave a small patch on my arm. Looking forward to finding a cheap straight to attempt to learn the honing techniques I've read here.
All the best!

Welcome Tim,
Sounds like you're going to fit right in here. With your background, I'd hazard that your learning curve for straight razor honing will not be all that steep. Read up, ask questions, have fun...not necessarily in that order. Oh, one other thing...watch out for all of the AD's (acquisition disorders). No one is immune.
Cheers,
Ed

Welcome aboard Tim. You already have the right toys. Just make sure the Norton is lapped perfectly flat before you start working on the razor.
