I think I have enough info to make an informed choice now... time to start browsing!

One question more - at the risk of getting ahead of myself, but I haven't figured it out yet: honing pyramids? I am not fathoming what a pyramid is. (Is fathoming even a word? It is now!) I get that when honing each pass is one forward and one back and you do several passes on varying grit stones... but theres a lot of mention of pyramids and, well... what does it mean?

(The entire previous paragraph was a long winded way of me telling you I'm dense... gee, I get long winded on a saturday evening. I need to go out.... I think I will.)
The pyramid is just a system of honing with two different grits. It was developed to establish a nicely polished bevel off the Norton 4k/8k (even though it can be modified to suit othe stones) while preventing overhoning. There's an explanation of the mechanics of it (among other very useful documents) in the Help Files section. Give them a read.

found the library... cool. didnt notice that before.

Ok.. figured out what a pyramid is... it's this thing in egypt and its big and pointy looking.

narrowing down my list of things...
for the razor, is there a big diff in the TI razors that are sheffield silver steel and the lower range ones? Specifically the "Evide Sonnant Extra"? Will likely go with a 6/8. I like wooden scales (woodgrain is pretty), but dont think its worth the extra $50 to me.

Vulfix brushes are good quality? Not sure what makes one brush better than another given the same type badger hair.

Happy thanksgiving to the Canadian types out there!

I had one of those, it was very good, just a little on the large side for me.

Vulfix are a good brand, as well as their own branded brushes they aslo make brushes for people like Trumpers etc.

Excellent on the brush - I'll have to pick a design I like now.

Any ideas on the blade front?

Also wondering about strops... was looking on Tony's site... is there a huge difference in the original, paragon, and artisan strops, as far as a noob like me goes? Functionally speaking? Or is it simply aesthetics and grade of material?
