    Post Another from downunder

Gidday...Another from downunder this time a Kiwi interested in hearing from any other Kiwi's out there. Nz has a definite lack of anything decent in the shaving line. I have two razors a 5/8 Gotta and a Kakaime 7/8. A Vulfix 19mm pure badger and a Kent BK12 sourced from Kents' in England. Strop I had made and would love to try decent shave creams but I'd have to get from overseas. One retailer sells Dovo razors and also Vulfix shave cream but thats about it. Interested to hear of any other retailers in Nz. Cheers Choppa

    Hi Choppa,

Welcome to SRP. You may try contacting garythepenman. He is a fellow Kiwi and would probably know best where to source stuff from the land of the long white cloud. Gary is also a very accomplished restorer of old razors and does a truly nice job of doing them.

I have not seen him around much lately but shoot him a PM, I'm sure he would be only too happy to help.

    Cheers
    John

As far as information, if you can't find it here or someone who knows....it probably isn't out there!

    Happy Shaving!

    Kia ora bro!

Well I am Kiwi by blood but living abroad, I would imagine NZ would be a pain to source anything good, the only place I can think of is in Christchurch, an old school type department store that usually charges 2x what anything is really worth. Its called Ballantynes (sp?). If you do get in touch with Gary could you let me know too, coz I may just be returning in the early new year.
If I can make one recommendation to you its this "Make sure you invest in Lynn Abrams world of straight razor shaving" Its worth every penny.

    Welcome to SRP.

Hey Bud...As far as sourcing product, its a pain in the you know what. There's a retail shop up in Jafa country that sells a few pieces (Vulfix brushes and shave cream and Dovo strops and razors) but that's about it, bloody pathetic. Are you chucking the leather easter egg around in the land of the rising sun (playing rugby in Japan)? If I manage to get hold of Gary I'll pass your message on and if you are coming down under let me know and you can bring back some bits and pieces. Ka kite...Choppa

Nah don't play rugby eh, never really got into team sports, I like individual sports.

The rising sun is right, I see how they designed their flag, thats exactly what it looks like at sunset quite often. So hopefully Gary will be able to help out, coz soaps here are basically handwash soaps, they shouldn't be used to try shave with.
