Thanked: 0Hi Paul
Wow that is a long way to travel to work!!
I have not had a chance to check out John Lewis stores. We have two small kids and so getting out and browsing casually around shops only happens once in a blue moon. Same goes for getting out to the pub I’m afraid but who knows…
Cheers
Ray

If you live near a Crabtree & Evelyn, have a look (and smell) at their shaving soaps and creams. Their brushes are pretty good value too.
Also, there's a wee kiosk in Princes Square in Glasgow called The Perfect Shave which has various shaving supplies. Not exactly bargain prices, though.
Sandy - Isle of Bute, eh? My parents live in Kilchattan Bay so I've been known to pass through once or twice.

Thanked: 131I heard of this place only yesterday. Am going into Glasgow tomorrow so may well check it out. But you are right. Its really only princes that can afford to shop in Princes Square. Kinda place with jewelers where they dont show prices in the window and if you have to ask, you cant afford it.
You know I was in Kilchattan Bay just on tuesday. We went for food to a lovely pub. They did a magic steak. I stay north of Rothesay though in Port Bannatyne. If you're in Rothesay sometime there is a shop on the front that does its own range of shaving soaps. Have yet to try them though.

Ther is an asian grocer on Woodlands Road in Glasgow called KRK that sell good sized alum blocks for about 50p each. It's right at the roundabout with Gibson Street, in between Glasgow uni and Charing Cross. Hopw this helps.
I've tried the Wilkinson soap bowl too and it not too bad actually. John Lewis does sell some things like Taylors soap and Kent brushes too.

Thanked: 131stot i've just come back from Glasgow and spoke to the nice guy at The Perfect Shave. They do some Trumpers or £16.50 and refils for £8. Only three flavours that I saw and they all seemed very strong. Lots of fancy 'normal' razors- Mach 3's all dolled up all fancy like. But he didnt seem to know much about the straight razors other than that Dovo were a top brand. Spoke about their sister company in America though...
Anyway think i'll stick to getting my things from the internet.

Thanks for the report, Sandy. I've only passed The Perfect Shave once and there was too big a queue to hang around for a chat. I was slightly alarmed to see a nasty chip in their display TI, though! Maybe it was strictly display only.
One soap I have recently tried was the Shetland Soap Company's which I was very impressed with. It was £7 or so and although the packaging wasn't anything spectacular, it performs very well and has a good refreshing scent. I got it in Kirkwall but I don't know if it's available on the mainland. There's always the internet again, I suppose.
Was it the Kingarth Hotel you got your steak at? I've certainly enjoyed a few meals there. And got a fair number of hangovers too.

Thanked: 131Hi Stot. I didnt see any TIs- only 3 Dovos. I am very pleased however to hear of your satisfaction with the Shetland Soap Company's shaving soap as I used to live on Shetland- in Lerwick in fact! My wife nearly ended up working for them at one point. They have a good working ethic towards actively trying to employ those with disability- but thats neither here nor there.
As for our place of eating I cant remember at all. My wife tells me it was called the Smiddy Bar but checking it on the net shows that this is in fact part of the Kingarth Hotel. Steak was great and there is a bus route from outside the pub to outside our flat. Dont think i'll be using it for drinking in tho- our local is 200 yards away from our flat on foot.
Can I put this up yet? Or are we still close(ish) to topic..?

Thanked: 131Thought this would be an appropriate place to mention another thread in the forums discussing a possible meet up in the UK. For those of you unaware of it the thread can be found at;

Hope its something that goes ahead- leave a message on the thread to say if you'd be interested...
