Yeah for defo count me in. Depends on the day now though. Saturday is good for me but Sunday is not. And like most folks alot of the week is out. I would only have Wednesday. Since i'm working now i'll need some time to give advance warning to employer.

I dont think it should be a bar. I would LIKE it to be a bar but TBH how many landlords do you know that would agree to a large number of unknown men showing up all wielding knives?

In half-seriousness I think it might be worthwhile investigating advice from police on the organisation of this. Are there any policemen amongst us who are on the forums to give us advice?

Also for me money is an issue. I would like to stay over but since i'm travelling from Scotland as it is i'm afraid the Ritz is out.

I will keep a careful eye on this thread.

EDIT: Oh and as far as organizing it goes I know this lovely town on the west of scotland called Wemyss Bay. What do you think Garry?

I am definitely interested. Keep me posted. A good pub sounds great (I live by the Good Pub Guide), but I also expect the landlord would be unlikely to let a gang of fellas compare cut-throats over booze.

I would enjoy the chance to socialise, learn (honing) techniques and also perhaps a group buy.

I can just imagine my girlfriend thinking me an utter geek on this!

I think I know a couple of landlords who are reasonable enough to understand that a group of middle aged shaving geeks don't represent any significant danger even if they do have a lot of sharp objects.

As far as the legality is concerned - there is no legal problem with having possession of a sharp object if you've got a sensible reason for having it. Going to, being at, and returning from a meeting of straight shaving enthusiasts would certainly count as a justifiable reason for possession.

I'm not a lawyer but I am fairly sure about this.

I'm still up for a meet but I've got some other serious commitments until about July . If it's going to be sooner I'll seriously try my best to make it

It'll be good to meet up and see everyone in person - very appealing

    Default Castle Donington area?

Just checking out access points to the Midlands and perhaps for many the idea of a cheap flight into east Midlands airport might be a winner? Certainly I can jump on a plane in Inverness and go there return for £40. Plenty of venues to look into.
Should we put this into the 'meetings' area and perhaps set up a poll for time of the year etc. It would be really good to have a selection of people with experience coming along to make it attractive for everybody. Perhaps have a honing/stropping demo by an old hand/s, a selection of collections that people could talk everyone through. A talk and demo on basic restoration by someone? Could even take a couple of digipics each and add to a powerpoint presentation and everyone can get a chance to say why a certain razor is the best for them? I think if this has a chance of success it would need to have buy in from a few senior UK members who wouldn't mind inputting on the day. As I have said I don't mind the legwork to get venue etc sorted. So - setup a poll on the meetings section? Anybody happy to do some of the activities suggested?
Obviously I can also arrange a leisure activity as well as the obvious eating and drinking, once this seems to have more fullsome support.

    cheers

I'd be up for this, particularly for the chance to see people strop and hone as examples. I'm in London and carless so would either like to carpool or look for a location that's within reasonable reach of a train or coach station.

    Cheers,

    Justin.
