Greetings from the Green Mountain State
Greetings all! As you probably guessed from the name, I’m from the beautiful state of Vermont. I’ve been wet shaving with crappy disposable 2 bladed Gillette razors since these little tiny hairs started popping up all over my face, but recently I’ve become interested in learning how to wield a straight razor. A few months back I realized that I really wasn’t satisfied with my shaves, and started poking around on the internet. Eventually I caught wind of a glorious thing called hot lather… One 5$ boar’s hair brush from Bed Bath & Beyond and I was on my way to enjoying my mornings. Yes, you are right to shudder about that brush, it probably is as bad as you are thinking, but I don’t know the difference yet, having heard of a group of people who actually still use straight razors, and apparently have a wonderful start to their day (at least till they hit a deer on the way to work).
Anyway, I finally made my way to the source of it all, and found myself here. I’m hoping to figure out how to equip myself properly and learn how to use my new found equipment. From what I’ve read so far, you guys have a simply wonderful community going on here, and I’m eager to become a part of it. That’s right, not only do I drink, smoke a pipe, and curse like my great grandfather (allegedly) but I’m not afraid to lose a pint or four before 10 am!
About me: 23, from Vermont, avid computer programmer who is a Sophomore at UVM studying Middle School Education because I found that I enjoy teaching way too much. I’m happy to report that I think I may finally know what I want to do for the next 10 years if not my life, which is more than too many people my age can say. I’ve got a dog, and a nick on my chin from this morning. Ok, I’m running out of steam, so I’ll end it here. I’m glad to be a (new) part of this community!

Welcome to SRP! Have a look around and don't hesitate to ask questions! Many sites like vintageblades.com and classicshaving.com have pre-assembled "starter kits" that you can pick up at an economical price to get you started. They'll come with all the basics you need: straight razor, brush, mug, soap and strop. Enjoy!
