Thanked: 1Grrrrrr baby very grrrr
After 2 weeks of trying I finally got my chin smooth! The key was re lathering and then stropping after the fist pass WTG and going really slow on the second XTG. My neck didn't turn out as well as usual but this was a big step in the right direction, I cant wait for it all to come together. Just sharing my experiences.

It's fantastic to hear you're making progress! At the least you show that learning to use a straight razor can be done. Keep at it, and all will turn out well (or so I'm told ^.^)

That's exactly what I have to do on my chin, jaw underside, neck and sideburn areas.

Thanked: 0I'm having the same experience. 1st pass with the grain. Strop the razor again, then make a 2nd pass against the grain. I'm still not getting completely smooth at the chin and under the neck.
I'm sure to get a better result as i gain more experience and get better at stropping.
So far, so good up to this point. I'm still developing my hand(s) coordination for shaving.
I'm sure that improvement lies with buying more razors.
I'll buy few more and see.

Continuing progress. That's a good thing!
Glad to hear you're getting better. It really helps calm my nerves when I hear of other people learning quickly.

I don't take serious pictures. I got a crooked smile because my whole danged face is off kilter. So, I just try to do something stupid, and it usually makes for a fun picture.
Here's the full-size for you curious types....

Two weeks, thats not to bad at all. I haven't worked my way down to my chin yet. I'm staying with the cheeks, and the neck for now.

Thanked: 2the learning curve
....somewhere I read about a learning curve, and clue what had
to do with using a straight razor.
WELL, I do now. 3rd attempt at shaving was like another inactment of Sweeny Todd. Went back and played Lynn's DVD two more times. It helped....... a lot.

A couple of hints.
With the evil cartridges, when it wasn't shaving well what did you do? Press harder against the skin. On a straight, you're just making a blood sacrifice to the terrible and fierce mirror god. If your not getting a gliding shave, change angle, hold your razor lightly. Think of moving the razor parallel to your skin and the only pressure you think of is against the whiskers along your skin.
Second. Stropping tends to be a major culprit in poor razor performance. hold the blade lightly and as Lynn states in his DVD, only the weight of the razor should be holding the razor against the strop. If your in a rush, cut to the chase and head to the nearest Red Cross donor station and donate there. Give it time, and before you know it, you won't remember shaving with anything else but the magnificent str8!
