Anticipation Building
Hey everyone, I found a post about straight razor shaving about a week ago on digg and have read everything I could get my hands on since then. I'm wicked excited... poor college student here, but I've got an extensive background in woodworking, so I sprang for this razor here, a basic strop, badger brush, and got a new nortion 4k/8k comin! I can't tell you how excited I am to hone this thing up

Now where's the mailman? I haven't been this impatient since first beginning to train bonsai trees hehehe.
Thanks, by the way, for everyone's willingness to share information here... this forum is a HUGE resource to those of us just starting!

Don't wait up, the razor you bought is useless...
Welcome to the group. Stick around, ask questions, and read, soon you will get to know straight razors a lot better,
cheers,

Well, actually there's been conflicting results on this razor (Double Arrow, if I recall correctly). Some have seen the metal to be so poor it won't hold an edge, while others compare it favourably to another inexpensive razor, a Wapienica or Wapi (which is a helluva razor). All that being said, even if you luck out and the razor's steel is good, it will still have to be honed by a honemeister to make it shave ready (despite what it says, it's not - please read the stickies in the newbies forum).
Good luck, and as Nenad said, ask lots of questions, are read everything on this forum that you can (including the archives and library).

Good luck, hopefully it ends up being a decent razor.
If it doesn't work out, buy a pre-honed shave-ready
razor from someone on the forums before you become
frustrated and discouraged.

Hey, I found this place the same way! Crazy how that works out.
And like the guys above me here said, make sure you get started on a truly shave-ready razor.

Thanks guys
Milton, I was afraid of that. I saw all the excitement about the Wapis and figured I'd practice honing a cheap one from the same seller. Perhaps that's all I'll get out of it - practice
