Default Started to collect... even before my first shave!

    Hello
Thanks to everyone for the great info I have found on your boards. I have been a DE shaver for a few months and am gathering courage to join your ranks. I kind of got ahead of myself and started picking stuff up rather than getting a starter set. Dropping 150 or so without a stone was a concern at the time. But I now realize this was a mistake.

I have a brush and soaps from DE but needed a blade, strop and stone.

I picked up a Wapi (not from Mike's offer unfortunately) that is not shave ready. So I am now looking for a strop and stone = Tony and Norton.

I also picked up these cheapies off ebay to practice honing and try my hand at restoring - I see all of the great restorations done here and would like to try it myself.

The decorated blade shows alot of hone wear, I know, but the Genco is in pretty good shape IMHO. Please tell me otherwise.

I will send the wapi out for a pro hone but do want to get a stone... do it yourself kind of guy.

Again thanks for the info and if any other newbies read this, if you can, get a starter set!

    Ditto on the RAD!!

I was in the exact same boat that you are in. I too have all of my stuff from DE shaving. Iwent to a local antique mall and purchased several razors, all but one was bought for under $8.00 each.

I then sent them off to be cleaned up a little and honed.

In the meantime I picked up a strop and Lynn Abrams' DVD.

About a week later my razors came back shave ready and I was able to complete my first shave.

While I may have been able to start straight shaving by myself, this helpful community at SRP made it a lot easier and I'm keeping my blood on the inside where it belongs!

Sounds like you got the RAD big time. From the looks of it there is no cure. I would feel bad for you if I wasn't scared of getting it myself. Good luck with it.

Let Junior Member's opinion not lead you astray. Indeed there is a cure for your condition and per the usual recommendation it's best if said cure is administered at as early stage as possible. And without further due, the cure of your RAD consists of you ordering and paying for a custom razor from a maker of your choice (Livi,RW,JC,TZ) and sending it to my address. This act will grant you permanent favor with the shave-gods and will guarantee your safe and enjoyable first shave as well as many years of superb shaves. Plus that will ensure you a special treasure in the after life - a very special 7-day set, but the full details will be disclosed only after you have taken your prescription and completed the process.

yes, you're very welcome - that's why this place is so great.

    Default No can do

Sorry man, my new found RAD prohibits me from sending you a beautiful new razor. Besides I can't wait until the afterlife for a seven day set, I want it NOW!

Thanks, guys for the welcome. I will be sending my razor off this week for sharpening and let you know how it goes.

Again thanks for posting all of this on SRP. I look forward to going through it all and sharing with others.

    Eric
