    Post Newbie taking the plunge

    Hey everyone!

Just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. After lurking here for a bit and copious amounts of encouragement and donations from a friend (Kasperitis). I finally manned up and got the gear I need to give myself a straight razor shave:

    - Dovo "Classic Black", 5/8" Carbon Steel Straight Razor (Pre-honed from Vintage Blades, of course)
    - Good ol' Willimas Mug Shaving Soap (CVS)
    - Bore Hair Brush (CVS)
    - Leather Stop (donated!)
    - A review of Lynn Abrams' DVD (borrowed!)

I'm hoping to give it a shot tonight after work, so we'll see how it goes. I've already gone through the pre-shave routine and substituted the straight for my old Mach3 (mild blasphemy, but my straight wasn't in yet) so I'm comfortable with that. My big question is the post-shave...I've heard of a lot of products for post-shave, but I haven't gotten anything yet. Any recommendations? Luckily, I have a second job (part time at CVS) to support my Antique Car/Craft Beer/Tech Toy habit, so I was hoping to get some feedback on something I could easily pickup there before I headed home.

Thanks in advance for the feedback, and I'll let you know how it all goes tomorrow!

    -Dave

I knew if I helped out with a few donations and encouragement you'd play ball. I'll want that DVD back sometime. Gotta check out that collection again.

Welcome onboard friend! I recommend some scented witch hazel, but the other guys here might be able to give some further advice.

At CVS, Nivea for men (sensitive) works pretty well. Nice, easy, pretty cheap, and contains glycerin.

+1 That's what I'm using at the moment.

Thanks for the recommendations. I actually used to use Nivea back in my electric razor days (*shudder*), so I'm familiar with their stuff. I just didn't know if there was something geared more towards to the straight razor folks or not (I guess most post shave stuff doesn't care about the blade type lol).

Welcome aboard. I'm sure like the rest of us, you'll be glad you found this place. Good luck with the first shave. May you have the styptic and not need to use it before you need to use it and not have it.
