Thanked: 11Another intro
Hello everyone. My name is Connor and I shave with a cut throat razor.
I think I have always wanted to use a straight. At least since I was 20 or so (I'm 27 now). God only knows why, but I did. So about a year ago I started to think about doing something about it. Couldn't really justify the price of entry to the straight razor world (or at least I thought not), as I didn't know if I would be willing or able to continue using one.
So I bought a shavette. Used it for 6 months or so and got my technique pretty much down. I had lots of small cuts for the first few weeks and took a proper chunk out of my cheek which it seems will be with me forever as a reminder.
Then I decided to buy real cut throat. Started researching again. Found this place. Followed your advice and bought a razor from classicshaving, which was honed by Lynn. The first 2 or 3 shaves were mediocre, but once I figured out how to strop properly, it all clicked. The shaves are soooo smooth, with no irritation whatsoever. The shavette is better than a cartridge in this respect, but nothing compared to a real straight.
This forum is just what I needed in order to figure out what I actually needed. (I hope that makes sense).
There are so many good resources on here. This place rocks, and you guys all seem to be the epitomy of what it is to be a gentleman. I think you all deserve a major pat on the back, just for being here to help everyone.

For what its worth thats what my first few shaves with a double edge were like. Sort of looked like I had put my face through a meet grinder. Managed to get it right after a few tries.

It's good to have you with us Conner. It's nice that shaving is a pleasure now instead of a chore. I always look forward to shaving. My beard doesn't grow fast enough.
