Thanked: 0Tough, tough beard!!!
Hello,
Great, great site!
My first post here:
I JUST started shaving with a straight razor before I found this site and have been somewhat fortunate to have a good first experience. Lucky I guess!!! I purchased a razor from a guy off eBay a few years ago and only this week did I decide to use it. I guess this first experience is what REALLY got me hooked!!!
Anyway, when I got to my chin and mustache area, the razor had more difficulty and more resistance. Anyway to make this easier? Do you think my razor may be a bit dull to cut the tougher hair I have in this area? I'm using regular shaving soap (don't throw things at me) until I can get to purchase the proper soaps, creams and brush.
Thank you for any help and once again - great site... I'm glad it's been established!!!
James

Thanked: 1Purchase Lynn's DVD on the World of Straight Razor Shaving. If its not in this forum its in the Buy/Sell/Trade one. Glad you had a good experience. Before you shave, pluck a hair from your head and slice it with the straight. If it cuts, you should be ready to shave. Nice to hear your happy!

You did give that razor a good stropping before the shave... right? Had to ask...
Yes it’s possible the razor is sharp enough to give acceptable shave... but may have trouble in some areas like the chin. It may need a little honing or stropping.
If you haven't already done so... check out the sticky at the top of this forum?.."Why A "Shave Ready" Razor is often NOT Really Shave Ready...." some good info there and checkout other stickys around the forum.
Dont worry, regular shaving soap is just fine for an excellent shave, but feel free to pamper yourself with the more exotic.
Welcome to Straight Razor Place.

True...
I thought he was using “bar soap”... applied by massaging with the fingers you can get pretty good shave, of course the brush makes ot much more... pleasant.
We may both be making assumptions based on his post, and at the same time the assurance we will not "throw things at him".Last edited by smythe; 03-01-2008 at 11:04 PM.
