Desperate Need
Hey everyone, I am in desperate need of moron proof advice. I've been trying to use a straight on and off for about four years now (more so off), reason being I'm in the military and noe am currently on a recruiting duty tour. Being the public poster boy I have to have a perfect shave as close as possible without a shadow. Daily. Without being super good at straight razor shaves, it seems almost impossible to become profieceint. I have spent close to a grand on different items I have a dovo, 2 thiers isard, a henckels and a boker. 2 diff hanging strops and a paddle. I just purchased a 4000/8000 hone and am very serious about leaving the monopoly of the mens shaving world behind. To do so requires immediate results and I just dont think I'm doing something right! Any ideas???

It sounds like a practice thing sorry to say.
Possibly do a pass or two and touch up with your other razor? hopefully you'll see that you need to use the other less and less.
Or you could just go slowly, sorking on the cheeks only until they're perfect then expanding your territory.
Or heck, if there's an appointment with a potential recruit be in mid shave and stop when they show up. That'll impress them.

Yes, the most important thing is to have a sharp razor. It seems you have some idea what to do, but since we have a member that was explicitly told to hold the razor at 90degrees, make sure you double check the basics of the technique.
Investing $20 in Lynn's DVD is quite wise at this point. You seem to have well overspend on gear and you may need to get your technique down.
So, yes send one or two of your razors to a honemeister, as suggested - Lynn or David would be a perfect choice.

Recruiter huh...
Just quit and send all your shaving stuff to me...
Seriously though, get Lynn's DVD and watch it in between your phone calls to parents and punk ass teenagers. Then practice shaving at night so that worst case scenario you can touch up with your go to razor in the morning. Just make sure you use light, VERY light pressure and a shallow angle so that you dont over shave and burn yourself. Eventually you'll stop having to do those touch ups in the mornings. Keep a razor in your desk and in your car, so that if you do have a few patches, you'll be covered. I'll hone your razors for you, PM me if you are interested.

At the risk of sounding contrary, and I mean no offense, I think 4 years is enough practice. I think you need an intervention.
+1 on the well honed razor. If your interested we can set up a time in the forum chat site and I can explain the entire process step by step, from honing to stropping to shaving in clear (moron proof) verbage.
Or if you prefer I'll send you my cell phone number.
Its an offer for you to consider and its open anytime.
And thanx for your service.
