Thanked: 0First timer in need of a honemeister's services.
Hello everyone, this is my combination first-time post as well as a plea for help from a honemeister . I just registered last night and after chatting with a few folks (Byron and Gssx, I believe) was pointed to the newbies corner here.
Here's my situation. I became enamored with the idea of shaving with a straight recently after having a shave at a local barbershop where they still use straights. It's just too awesome, heh.. so, needless to say, a day or two later found me downtown buying a new Fromm 72R, a stop, and a small hone. After doing a little research online, I also found this site where I have been reading and learning the ropes of shaving with a straight.
So anyway, knowing that the fromm itself was not shave ready, I tried my best to hone it to readiness, only to achieve a quasi-sharp razor that has difficulty in removing hair from my arm. I imagine one of the unspoken stigmas of the honer's apprentice is going about with no hair on your forearm and straight fine cuts on your thumbnail for some time .
Well, long story short is that I'm in need of a honemeister to put a keen edge on my Fromm. I'm really looking forward to that first shave with a straight, done by yours truly.. not by the barber. If you've made it this far without your eyeballs starting to bleed, my thanks.
