Thanked: 1I think you're getting some odd information. A strop should never really wear out, it may need some dressing applied once a year if it gets dry, but many people just rub it with their hand every now and then which transfers some of the skins natural oils to the leather of the strop. It may need a rub with a pumice if you nick it (and you probably will as a newbie) to smooth out the nicks, but if you buy from Tony Miller he will supply a practice strop for very little money as an extra so you can get your technique down. The same goes for the blade on a proper straight, it should outlast you if properly cared for, it may need an occasional hone and maybe some touch-ups on a pasted paddle/strop, but that should really be it unless you damage it badly - this morning I shaved with an 1890 Joseph Rodgers razor -80 years older than me!

Wow thank you BOTH for responding again! Pardon my falso info barbelus...and that's wild about your 80-year old razor! Older than some HUMANS!
I just want to make sure I don't need any additional supplies before I make the order for my DOVO and strop (getting the honing option -- thanks for your input about purchasing barbelus!)
A few more questions:
-After my first shave with the DOVO when I get it, what happens post-shaving to the razor/razor care? Do you rinse the blade after each pass? Alcohol or oil in the blade after shaving? Will it rust at all?
(I usually don't shave daily, as I try and keep either a beard or chin strap. Sometimes, I'll touch it up during the week without doing an ALL-OUT shave -neck, cheeks, etc.- For this, I use cocoa butter as a lubricant -- my barber used it on me in the shop, and it works excellent for anyone doing mid-week quick touch-ups)
-Any tips on brush care? (I don't have a stand)
Sorry if i'm being annoying -- just want to have a good experience as I'm still on the learning curve with straight razor shaving
