Thanked: 4I honed up a henckel 5 star to a hair shaving sharpness using a lansky kit years ago. It was fun in the kitchen but too fine an edge for most tasks.

I did it on a bet once with a Victorinox Soldier model pocketknife. It was actually fairly comfortable. The beard was soaked for about 15 minutes and the knife was very well stropped.

Thanked: 3It can be done, It all depends on th quality of the steel of the knife and the pain-tollerance of you friend. I have a few knives that are good enough when properly sharpened and honed can do it. After a few tries it starts to sting and then hurt and then bleed......possible but not a good shave or a comfortable one, I would rather use a bic 2 blade disposable without any soap or cream.
