    Default Traveling with your straight

When you go traveling how do you pack your straight and strop? I asked this one in the other straight razor forum and would the opinion of members of this forum as well. I would imagine the presence of a straight would probably give TSA fits and nightmares.

I'm about to travel as well, and I am going to be checking one bag with my straight, strop, brush, toothpaste, water bottle, etc. I have a feeling you'd be likely to tack on a few extra hours of questioning and interrogation if you tried to bring one of these sharpest-wonders-of-the-world through.

As for packing, there are several cases/tubes available for purchase I believe. Personally, I will just be wrapping my straight in a couple layers of tissue paper and rubber-banding my brush, but I don't have fantastically expensive equipment to worry about if it somehow becomes damaged. If your equipment is on the higher end, I would suggest investing in a proper case/tube to protect it. Hopefully some other members can offer suggestions

I've asked this as well... The general consensus was check your bagage...
I just carry a Gillete Sensor as my travel razor.

I check my bag with the straight(s) in it along with a travel strop made by TI. It's basically a paddle with smooth leather on one side and rough leather on the other and comes with a nice leather case that will accomodate one razor. I pasted the rough side with Chromium Oxide. Works great.

Tony Miller makes a strop that has the leather attched to the lid of a really nice looking wooden case with a handle. (Tony, I appologize for butchering my desription of your handiwork ) This would be another good option, with the added benefit of providing more protection for you razor.

I have a travel box from Tony Miller with leather on two sides of the box. Inside I keep a cheap(er) razor with a few silica packets thrown in (keeps the razor dry).

TGQ makes a sample size of their shaving cream that is perfect for the Dopp kit. Add some aftershave balm and you are set!

I pack 2 straights when I travel to Europe. The razors are placed in plastic cases and placed in the bottom of my toilet kit under toothpaste, hairbush etc. The toliet kit goes in my checked luggage. Be aware that pilfering is a problem with the TSA these days. Pick your razor accordingly.

I am thinking of taking a long a sensor for the trip. Would not really care one way or the other if they took that, costs too much to shave with that.
