One thing straight razors have done for me (A comment from a newbie)
Over the past thirty or so years of shaving my face has been trying to tell me something, get rid of all Gillette products. My skin reacts very badly to everything that Proctor and Gamble's Gillette unit makes. Until I started working with my Dovo straight razor I have been unable to get rid of Gillette and their evil influence on the market. Even in the safety razor market they have a majority of the market share. Straight razors have enabled me to make a clean break with Gillette products and move to another company and their products. Now my face is happy and I am happy. Gillette has been bad news, and the prices that they force the public to pay for their terrible products are nothing short of outrageous.

Can you think of any other mainstream manufacturers
that are any different?
Glad we could help you break free, at any rate

Thanked: 0I agree completely. I am in college and am still in the tree-huggin part of life. I hate throwing anything away, and especially when it costs $20 to get more Mach 3 every month or so. I know this takes an initial investment, but will save once the AD settles down. Best of luck to you and everyone else here.

until 2007 i wore a full beard for 30 years until i grew tired of it and started using a really old de my son bought me a old straight for christmas in 2006 because i like knives he figured i would like the straight it sat in a closet for over a year i used to look at it and shake my head untill i got the urge to try straight shaving out got a hone from my barber all i had to do was show interest in shaving with one and he gave it to me wouldnt take any money either but i always tip him btw he is in his mid 70s so he tried to set me straight and off i went thank god for this forum and others like it i finally picked up a wade and butcher 6/8 honed and stropped it and found the true meaning of straight shaving it was a breeze to shave clean in 2 passes the 5/8 full hollows i was using wernt doing the job i was getting nowhere with those little blades they were sharp too i have a really tough beard that requires more of a blade to clean up i have learned so much here and have this site to thank now i gotta spend way too much money but it is fun lets see 120 on strops probably 250 on stones maybe 400 then there are the razors i really like well made products you get what you pay for after all dont you so a conservative estimate for razors 1000 -1500 to start gotta get at least 6 or 7 to start off with but i know my face will be smooth so its worth it to me

Thanked: 351I don't have the current Mach 3 prices but I figured maybe $2 a week for blades... over 40 years that worked out $4160.00 and I'd have nothing left to show for it but a pile of used blades. For that kind of money, I can afford quite the collection of razors, hones, strops, brushes, soaps, creams and aftershaves and if I take good care of those quality razors, I could probably recoup the entire investment at the end of said 40 years!
