Listen to what Amyn said regarding pressure...this really cannot be stressed enough...I am still learning but I find that pressure and blade angle are the two variables that have the most effect on my shave. I find blade angle to be easier to master than pressure for some reason...from what I hear even some persons with experience with straights have to remind themselves about the pressure from time to time. I forget who said this, but you want to think about straight shaving as a plane landing on a runway but instead of actually landing, the landing gears just "kisses" the tarmac breifly and goes back up.

I also found that my first few shaves to be a bit irritating and unless I took a few days off, the redness would stay on the neck.

Actually, another factor is the sharpness of the blade. You will use less pressure if you have a sharp razor because you will not feel the need to press if the razor is doing it's job well.

I would say give it a shot...very little pressure. I just shaved two days in a row for the first time, but that was because I used the scything technique and left virtually ZERO irritation.

I shave every morning. I suppose I don’t need to, but I want to. it is the only bit of peace and solitude I get so I enjoy it.

My advice is to wait for another day.
Firstly, many shavers find that 2 to 3 days growth shaves easier (and closer) than a 1 day stubble.
Secondly, your skin has hardly begun to adapt to the new shaving practice, and the learning phase will be more demanding on your skin that the shaves you'll give yourself after a few months of practice.

I too, could hardly wait for the whiskers to grow back again. I guess, that's for most straight razor shavers an unanticipated side effect of crossing over. A daily chore suddenly becomes a joyful hobby.
Patience is important, and a lack of it is sure to lead to frustration... and a red, burning face, in this case.

Of course, this is just my opinion. You are free to find out for yourself. If you haven't done so already You might even have proved me wrong.

    Have a nice shave,

    Bart.

    Thanks to all posters...

I actually did it once, with red and irritation all over my neck (and neck only!). However, this was with my disposable straight -- I will wait until tomorrow to use the DOVO again! Thanks guys

I shave every day without a problem...sometimes at less than 24 hours; depends if I have time in the morning or not.

It may just take some aclimation. I have fairly sensitive skin, but after a week my face became used to the new sensations.

It really depends on your skin and how fast your beard grows.

From personal experience learning with DE and now a straight, if I have a bad shave I usually wait a day so I don't irritate my skin.
