scything motion?
Can anybody explain in a little detail how this is done. From what I have read it sounds really close to moving the razor horizontally which I am certian is not correct.

Hard to explain in text without you taking the chance of trying it and cutting your face clean off. I suggest checking out the barbers manual in the archives for a picture. But to summarize, 1) moving the blade with a slight angle, usually tip leading in the stroke. NOT SIDEWAYS. Or 2) moving a blade down as being down, sideways as sideways, and scything as a gentle mix of both at once. Sort of at a 45 degree angle.

Thanks poona that was a fantastic vid. That looks much safer than what I was thinking.
On another note, that is exactly how my baber shaves me. I mean down to the order of the strokes.
