Thanked: 0Just saying hi
Just wanted to say hi to everyone here, I'm a new guy and this is my first post. I've been lurking and reading for a little while here but decided I should jump in and introduce myself I guess. I'm still looking/waiting for my first razor, so I don't have too many questions yet, but I'm sure they'll come. I looked around a little bit and decided to try and get one from billys blades, but I'm still waiting for a response from him, so we'll see if that works or not. I was a little hesitant to look through the B/S/T forum since some of the blades there looked a little intense, at least to my inexperienced eyes...any tips?
But yeah, thanks for having a great site going here! Looking forward to seeing what this experience is all about.

Thanked: 1212Welcome sir,
you came to the right place. A bunch of fine gentlemen will consider it an honor to answer your every question... even if there's no connection with straight razor shaving whatsoever
If you 're still looking for a razor / starter kit, the best way to go is to pop a question in the B/S/T section. I'm sure there will be someone there to cut you a great deal, and it's a great way to make sure you receive a shaveready razor. Some guys might even offer to rehone it for free, should that be necessary during your first few learning weeks. I would stay away from a spike point razor for learning the art.
Best regards,
Bart.

Welcome Cag! Bill Ellis has been ultra busy lately. He'll get back to you soon I'm sure. He just completed a restoration/honing on my Wade & Butcher 8/8 Meat Chopper. He did an outstanding job! Great shaver! Needless to say, I'm a huge Bill Ellis fan.
Anyhow, welcome to the forum. Let me know if I can help answer any questions. I'm nearly 6 months ahead of you. I can try to help you avoid the same mistakes I did.

Welcome!
Couple of good ways to go for a razor... First, as noted, you could post a wanted ad in the B/S/T. Many of the guys will be willing to help. Second, you could check with Mike_Ratliff about one of his Wapi's. They are 5/8 shave-ready for only $40. You can find them in the B/S/T or at thewellhonedrazor.com.
Good to have you on board!

Thanked: 0I checked up on Mike's Wapis, but it looks like they're all sold out on his website...unless there's a mysterious loophole i don't know about!!?!?!?.....eh.
Either way, it's good to know that Bill is alive. I'd like to wait for a response from him before I post any "wanted" ads in the BST forum, just to see what the story is on that blade. I'd love to get it sooner, it would break up the stress of school right now, but maybe I'd learn to use it better in a few weeks when school is over...i'm a stressed out college student and I need something new and shiny to play with to keep me out of a mental rut...
Anyways, thanks for the comments, the welcome is much appreciated. I'll be around...

I'm sure Mike will post here soon (he's usually pretty quick at getting through threads), but you could send him a PM...just to make sure he is really out. I'd love to get one myself.

welcome. See what Bill says. He'll certainly tell it like it is
I've purchased a few from him and they've been excellent. Be patient.
