Default Just got my first razor.

    Just wanted to say hi.
I've been on this forum for a while now, but all I did was just reading and trying to figure out if this was something for me. Shaving with a straight that is...
Well... I finally took the step and got myself a razor.
Got it right here on BST from Cannonfodder.

btw, he was really helpful and a great person to do business with, so if anyone is still looking for a razor, sent him a pm and I'm sure he can help you out.

Just unwrapped the box and it's a good looking razor. Not that looks will help me with learning how to shave, but it's a big plus.

So... here we go... Can't wait for my first shave. I'll probably wait till saturday morning, since I'll have a little bit more time and I certainly don't wanna rush my first time with a straight.
Gives me another day to read up on how to do this.
    I'll keep you guys posted.

    Good luck, Patrick!

I think that a lot of us who have many shaves under our belt have probably forgotten that very first time we put a str8 razor to our face. It's a very important moment. Some do well (as I did), and some don't do well. As you progress, you will find that there are many, many factors that are needed to get a good shave:

Good prep, a very sharp razor that is, also, stropped properly, a good soap or cream that is lathered correctly, and, of course, good shaving technique.

I consider myself very successful in regard to the entire wet, str8 razor shaving program, and I still am learning. My lathering techniques still continue to improve, as my honing skills are continually in a state of change and flux. Stropping is incredibly important to learn correctly! Doing all of the above well just wont work unless you can strop you razor correctly.

I wish you well in this wonderful adventure you are about to begin. There is a plethura of very nice people that are here to help you.

Let us know how that 1st shave goes.

    Regards,

    Steve

Good luck. Take it slow so you can remember everything you've learned.

Welcome, and good luck with the shave. Be sure to take it slow, and make sure you have the other items necessary (strop, soap/cream, etc) before starting. You might also want some neosporin (as suggested in another thread) or at least a styptic pencil.

I'm sure you will love it!

It is HHT sharp and one side of the paddle strop is pasted with .05 chromium oxide so you should be in good shape for a few months. I gave it a shave test and it mowed down the whiskers like butter. If you need anything, drop me a PM.
