Lynn's DVD will shorten the learning curve substantially. Thanks to our admins, you can look at a clip from the DVD on YouTube to get a feel for it. I found it really helpful, as have most of the people who have used it.

As the earlier posters have pointed out, it's very important to start with a properly honed razor and the usual advice is get your razor honed by someone who knows what they are doing (we call these guys Honemeisters, and there are quite a few of them that can help you get started). If nothing else, this will remove one variable from your early shaves and will give you a point of reference for your own honing in the future.
