    Default Moisturizer/aftershave questions

Ive been searching the boards and have found tons of info, the problem is I cant quite put it all together.

Ive seen many products mentioned, but am having hard times finding places to buy them.

First of all, my skin seems to get pretty dry, even a day or two after not shaving, skin flakes start to form on my chin and neck if I dont apply a moisturizer.
At the same time I seem to easily get whiteheads in the same places. I dont know how this is related and Im confused because it seems that whiteheads would be formed from oily skin not dry skin.
Maybe I am wrong on this?

I am guessing I need something that has no alcohol and will moisturize, yet not clog up my pores. Im using a Neutrogena post shave lotion as of now, and it seems ok, but Im not to happy with the scent, and it really isnt all that great. Gillette actually used to sell one I loved for a few years, it was totally scent free and did a good job... I cant find it anymore though.

I see lots of posts about Trumpers Skin Food. People say its amazing, but what is it amazing for? Other people say it does not moisturize at all and just makes you feel good. So Im kinda lost on what it is exactly. A more detailed explanation would be greatly appreciated. A good place to buy it from would also be good to know, because as of now Ive found a few websites, but they are all priced in Pounds and I am looking to order in USA(Im in California). Do any local type of stores sell these products?

Any other moisturizers that you guys can recommend? Im looking for something that doesnt have to strong of a scent, as I dont like to walk around and smell myself all day. I dont really like the generic "man" scent that lots of the products at the drugstore have either.

I ask that any suggestions please have a place of purchase added with them, as Ive found many posts that would have seemed to answer my question, if I could just find out where I can purchase the product being mentioned!

Thanks guys, and please forgive me for making a post about a well talked about subject.

Try Nivea products. They're quite cheap and have a light scent that disappears in a matter of half an hour.

As an alternative, it's not that hard to mix your own aftershavebalm. If interested PM me.

I've tried everything from the cheap 'Simple' to the very expensive 'Decleor' and 'Dermalogica'

If money is not an issue I throughly recommend the Dermalogica range.

However, I bought a bottle of 'Olay' yesterday with the knowledge of how incredible the skin of my late grandmother was even at 70+ years of age. She used the Ulay at the time which is now known as Olay and her skin was immaculate. She also drank a warm glass of water every morning but had an average diet.

Try Olay, it is cheap and currently im experiencing good results with it.

a nice cheap alternative is the men's after shave moisturizing gel from bath and body works, it's eight bucks at my local mall, and it works great. the scent is weak to nonexistant, but it's a good moisturizer.

note: when i bought it for 8 bucks, it came in a bigger container, also they seem to have changed the different scents that are available.

In addition to these, you could try an alum block (THREAD HERE). I, personally, have not used it yet, but from what I understand it is supposed to be great at stopping whiteheads/ingrown hairs.

I've gotten some very nice results with Art of Shaving's stuff recently.

Skin Food is used for a lot of purposes, pre shave, aftershave or sealant. For your issue with dry skin, it would be useful after using a moisturizer to seal your skin and maximize the effects of whatever moisturizer you use.

For what it's worth, I get great results with Truefitt & Hill moisturizer (Ultimate Comfort, in the silver/grey tube). It's a light lotion that absorbs quickly and has a faint lavender scent that fades quickly. It's available from Classic Shaving or Vintage Blades (you can also buy direct from T&H, but why not patronize our friends).

I think after shave routines are one of the most personal areas of shaving. We all have to find what works best for us.

That said, for a moisturizer I really like Purpose Dual Treatment Moisture lotion with SPF 15. This product was specifically recommended to me by a Dermatologist. No scent and it doesn't clog pores.

As for the Trumper Skin Food, you can get it here http://www.leesrazors.com/brandTrumper.htm

Lee is a well thought of vendor. The Skin Food is unique in my experience. Its not exactly a gel, but not a moisturizer either. It seems very heavy on the glycerin. For me, it provides very light moisture without being greasy or heavy like some balms.

You guys are great, this gave me a ton of things to try, and I may just go down the list until I find something that works for me.
Heck Ill prolly try most of these suggestions within a couple months.

Thanks a ton guys, this helped me alot more than trying to investigate old threads and trying to put them all together.
