Thanked: 0First shave!
Good Morning,
I had my first straight shave this morning. I transitioned from a double edge.
I bought a Dovo Tortise 6/8 from Classic- and had it honed by Lynn- outstanding job- thank you Lynn.
Some impressions:
The straight blade seemed very light compared to the Merkur double edge.
I had the best success on the side of my face, so-so results on the chin, under the nose, and neck- but for the first time- I am very pleased and look forward to improving my skills.
Thank you all for the great information posted, and I welcome any comments/suggestions.
Take care,
Gary

Congrats on the shave!! Sounds like you're doing things right (And I say "sounds" cause I'm still a newbie myself ). I would recommend, as you may have seen in other posts, to take your time, concentrate really hard on technique, and just enjoy yourself. That's what it's all about!
Congrats again!

Thanked: 0Thank you for the replies.
Since this was my first shave, when do you suggest I start stropping?

Congrats and welcome.
You should now strop before each shave. Go slow and keep the blade flat. Maybe 30-60 passes.

^^Agreed. Go slowly. Make sure that you turn the razor on the spine. You may have already read up on this, but if not there are great docs in the archives!

Thanked: 0Thanks all.
Should I strop only on the leather side, or should I do some strokes on the linnen first?
