Thanked: 0A new Hello!
Brand new to this place, though I have been lurking around unregistered for a week or two and finally decided to dive in! I have been bumming around on B&B for the last month or two as well; I think thats how I found out about here =)
I am currently not a straight shaver, though I plan to be real soon. I relatively recently decided to go from my Gillette Sensor to a DE, and the variety, relaxation, and cost savings have really gotten me in to the old barber way of thought.
I have all kinds of newb questions that I will probably go about tossing into their respective forums over the next few days; I just wanted to drop a line and give a quick greeting, and say thanks to everyone for all the great info I have gleamed so far!

Welcome! Glad to see another on board...
As Doc noted, the sticky's are incredibly helpful, and fun reads as well. If you do have questions, the guys on this board are great and very friendly.

Thanked: 0Getting started
Well, after much browsing and researching, I think I have a plan.
Firstly, it looks like two of the most notable places to get razors and accessories are classicshaving.com vintagebladesllc.com And it appears that both of them can get my something honed up by Lynn, which is probably where I am going to start.
Are there any significant differences between the quality of service of either site, or anything like that? If one is a better/safer bet than the other, I'll go there. They both seem pretty comparable as far as price.
I am looking to try out a new DE razor as well, so my current idea is to get this set:
http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...412/338006.htm
This includes a Merkur Vision (the DE I was considering getting before my thoughts of Str8 things), a stand, a silvertip brush, and a Dovo stainless.
1) is this a good deal as far as quality/price?
2) obviously I can shoot an email over to ClassicShaving, but does anyone know any more details on the include Dovo? If I were going to get a straight separate, I was thinking of the Dovo Black Star or the Perlex, so I just want to know if this is somewhat comparable.
It also sounds like any strop from The Well Shaved Gentleman will serve me well for a good time to come, though I can probably start with an entry level one from one of the sites above, so I can make my whole purchase in one shot.
I recently received an Art of Shaving gift set, so I at least have some pre and post stuff to try, and cream. Assuming I get into this as much I think I will, I will probably start looking at other soaps very soon =)
I assume I can probably wait on a mug/bowl/scuttle and just use something around the house until I get this all worked out?
I think I will also be getting Lynn's DVD, as it looks highly recommended by just about everyone =)
Thanks for any help!

Thanked: 12I think you'd be better off putting together the stuff on your own or talking to topher about a newbie kit if you are not hung up on getting a BRAND spanking new razor, but that's my opinion...
Do some more research.
