    Default New Fish! Fresh Fish!

    Hi there!
I have recently become obsessed with the idea of learning to shave with a straightrazor. After lurking around here for a week or so, reading up and getting the basic, I went ahead and picked up an E-bay razor. I am sure it will need some honing and such. I also picked up a strop, though I am a bit dubious about it.....

Luckily, there is a barber in the family who does straightrazor shaving, and in fact, to find out if my skin could handle it, i went to him today to have a nice shave. It worked out quite well, and was quite smooth.

He used a "disposable" straight, he said it saves him a lot of time, but he showed me what would be my wifes Great Grandfathers razor, which he uses himself on occasion, apparently.

Most happily for me, he said that once I get the blade, to bring it on by, and he'll set me up with his honing stones and teach me the ways.....

I've also contacted a Honemeister from the boards who is local to me, in case that falls through.

I'm sure I won't post much, but I read with interest everthing!

    Welcome aboard !!!
I think you definitely got the "Hook up"
In fact the only member I can think of that had it so easy when he started, was my neighbor Cat28, now he just hands me any razor that needs work on Sunday, trap shooting day, and I drop it off on my way to work Monday morning at his front door......

In retrospect, I guess I do have it kinda easy! Hehehe

Here's hoping that the methods he will be showing me will be effective.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
