Where to actually see/hold razors?
5-day newbie here. I was just tired of the expense and poor quality of standard shaving, so I thought I would look into str8s. No going back! This must be a little like crack cocaine. I am totally addicted! I have devoured the posts here and at B & B. I've spent so much time online the last week that my wife thinks I must be looking at porn or something.
I bought a Dovo Shavette to start, just to see if I liked it at all. First shave was horrible, fifth (today) was great. I plan to go ahead and use the blades that I bought with it, while searching for that "just right" first blade. I bought a brush, and ordered some creams from Colleen. I made a nice little scuttle from some bowls I had at home. Ordered Lynn's DVD. Plan to get a strop from Tony.
Now for the kicker. I am a real "hands on" kind of guy when it comes to a purchase like the razor. Online pictures have a place, but it is not enough for me. So, where can a guy go to actually see and hold some of these razors? I live in Texas, close to the Fort Worth, Dallas metroplex, but not impossibly far from Austin and San Antonio. Does anyone have a suggestion for where I could go to look at some good blades?
Love this sight. Thanks for all the help.

I would look at the Googlemap and throw yourself at the mercy of another member.
Sometimes barber shops have straights in them.

I bought my first razor at a cutlery store in a shopping mall near where I live. Check the ones in your area. And make sure they are selling German razors (it won't be shave ready though).

I think we have several members in your area. Your best bet is try and link up with one of them and maybe he will let you fondle some of his razors.

SRP is a great place to find the information and the blade you need.

hey dude, if you are near the northeast mall in hurst (or bedford or north richland hills, it's sort of on the border, dunno which city it's actually in) on 183 and bedford-euless road, go in and check out tobacco lane.
they have some straights and DE razors, along with soap and brushes and the like. or, if you can wait a coupla weeks, we're about to have our semi-annual dfw get together, where everyone comes out and shows off their gear, plus (dewey, correct me if i'm wrong) we are doing some kind of honing seminar this time.

Thanks
Thanks everyone. Jockeys, I appreciate the tip. I'm not sure when I will get by NE mall, but it shouldn't be too long. I would love to get details on the dfw get together.

Thanks Lakemonster. I hadn't thought about Forney or Trader's Village. I go through Forney and Canton on my way to my in-laws.
Jockeys, I posted on the other thread about the 26th. Thanks for directing me to it. Hope to see you there.
