I would go with the TI . IMO TI steel in this blade is better than Dovo Tortoise.

The TI are also half hollow ground which means there is some heft in the blade. This helps when you are a newbie.

I'm a newbie and have both a Thiers-Issard and a dovo ebony silver steel and I have to say that I like the Dovo better. As the poster above stated, the TI has more heft but I don't think this is a good thing as a newbie. When I first started shaving with the ti it felt bulky and unweildy compared to the dovo which I found much easier to maneuver. The Dovo also seemed balanced better.

Having said all that though, I'd agree that you should consider a vintage shave ready razor as you will get more for your money and you may find that straight razor shaving is not for you. It is quite a bit of work compared to shaving with a disposable.

Okay, I take your point gentlemen. It would make sense to get a cheap one that I can later practice honing on, when I move up to something a litttle more desirable.

Would you recommend any of the above as a starter razor?

I live in the UK so this guy is handy, and from research he is well respected.

My only concerns with vintage/used razors are the obvious blood born diseases out there.

I'm determined I'm going to straight shave, even if it takes me a year to get good at it!
Any of those look nice. Buy the one that appeals to YOU!

Blackbeard, you say UK. If so, where? I'm in Scotland myself. And I can recommend a good honer if you need it. Remember, just cos it says factory honed- thats not proper shave-ready.

If i were choosing form that list it would be the Genco. They easily take and hold a very nice smooth edge. The owner of the invisible edge is a member here, "blueprinciple" i believe, and he does have an excellent reputation.

Like many previous poster i recommend the vintage razors but if you heart is set on a brand spanking new one.. get a TI but later you will be wanting the Dovo as well...
Sterilizing blades if a topic of debate... on an ebite special ... rubbing alcohol, then cleaning and honing, more rubbing alcohol and if possible let it sit a few days most nasty things will be dead when you get ti and so those steps will just remove the evidence. but you can search for the threads on sanitizing a blade and decide for yourself.
    Be just and fear not.
