Thanked: 0Should I try with the Pakistani?
When I ordered a strop, I also got a cheap Pakistani no-name Razor. I have practiced stropping with it, and at this point it passes the HHT and I used it to dry-shave a patch on my arm with no trouble. I have since re-stropped.
My question is... it may be sharp enough, but should I try to give myself my first shave with this Paki straightrazor?
I have a col. Konk mug, brush and soap, and am eager to try shaving myself. In theory, I've got everything I need.
Your opinions, oh guru's of the blade?Last edited by Bill S; 04-09-2008 at 06:15 PM.

Try it and see. Cheap razors have a reputation for not keeping a shaving edge long enough to finish the job, so it would make sense to have something else standing by. Let us know how you get on.

Just don't expect to much. If it really starts to pull or worse, STOP and finish up another way.

My first razor was a Zeepk, and while it got the job done, its performance was far below that of my Geneva. I also agree that it loses it's edge fairly quickly. I have not used it since, but have kept it around for practice when I finally get some honing stones.

don't go there. for a little more you can get a razor with some good steel.

Thanked: 0First and foremost:
It has been brought to my attention that a term I used in my OP is considered offensive or racist in some parts. That was not my intention, I assure you all. I was not aware of this, and will refrain from using the term again. A most sincere apology is tendered to any and all who may have been offended or otherwise hurt by my ignorant wordage.
Second, the issue has become academic! My vintage razor that I ordered off Ebay arrived today. Now to contact a honemeister!

Thanked: 1The only pakistani blade I have/heard of actually giving a decent shave is sanguine.
I got one.
Worked great, but the edge appears to have fallen off and become unshaveable abruptly.
It takes more work, more often honing, to regularly use a sanguine and that's the best you can hope for with Pakistani blades.
In short, probably a bad idea.Last edited by Bill S; 04-09-2008 at 11:12 PM. Reason: change of terminology
