Quick Lingo for a newbie?
So.. I've been pokin around, watchin videos on youtube on how to do stuff... But there are a few words I cant understand what they mean. Most i figured out, by now. Such as BBS, XTG, WTG, ATG, blah blah.
But... I've looked at some links provided for types of blades, the shape rather and one website even had "parts" of a blade.
What are scales?! I cant figure it out... Sorry, gotta start somewhere :P
And, does it affect the shave? I figured the only things ultimately to affect functionality would be if its a wedge, hollow, etc etc and even then, with the right knowledge of how to use it youre good. Then youve got preference of the blade be it French or Spanish or Round or whatever.
Maybe we could start a thread (I hope there isnt one now) where people can post in some lingo they like thats not already there?
Thanks guysLast edited by ctufano; 04-09-2008 at 06:41 PM.

The scales are the two pieces that are pinned together to make the handle. Yes they are needed. They protect the blade and they steady the blade in your hand.

+1 to the post by Viola. I found those pages last week by the sheer drudgery (and fascination) of reading through lots of newbie posts.
In the A & A post, mention is made of asking the moderators to make it a sticky. Does anyone know why that wasn't done? It really would be helpful to all of us when we first start reading.
AND, welcome to ctufano and Viola. Glad you're here.

Yes, it would have been easier to find as a sticky. I, like you, found it from sifting through threads and today did a quick search on "lingo" to find it. Thank you for your greetings!

I'm a slacker apparently ;P I didnt do a search... I try searching on lots of forums, normally it requires like 3 words so I figured this would too, and had noooooo clue what to search for.
I agree, should be stickied
