Thanked: 0Please allow me to introduce myself
bit of a belated introduction, I suppose this is normally the first post, but I'm pretty backwards.
Anyway my name is ali and I live in london, been wetshaving for a year now and find myself fortunate that I went straight to it and bypassed electrics and cartridges. Now I'm finally looking to the ultimate step of buying and using a straight.
I'm just going to try and absorb the wealth of information you have here and try not to lurk too much, truly a great forum.
Greetings,
ali

Check out the vendors, Ali. Collen at The Gentlemen's Quarter has my favourite soaps and Tony Miller at The Well Shaved Gentleman, some awesome strops. There's more of equal quality too.

Welcome to the forum!
Glad you have decided to join us. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. You will always get some feedback.
So, as your first feedback, I would suggest that you get your straight honed by one of our honemeisters. They don't come (in general) with the edge that you will need to really shave. In addition, read as much as you can about stropping. I ruined a couple of professionally prepared edges with my stropping technique in the beginning.
If you want to separate the honing and stropping techniques from the actual shaving techniques, you may want to consider a Feather Artist Club razor that uses very sharp disposable blades. I found this to be a big help for me and still use the Feather as part of my regular rotation.

Welcome, Ali! This is THE place to learn about wet shaving and straight razors. I think you will be hard-pressed to find a more helpful and knowledgeable bunch of people!
Surf around the forums and enjoy!

Thanked: 79Welcome Ali,
Quite a group here, you're in the right place.
As to addictions involving the unexplainable need to own more straight razors, hones, strops, soaps, creams, brushes, or whatever-I can't help you. Don't fight it, you'll just go crazy.
