    Default First shave after honing!

Whelp, I knew my razor was on its way back to me, but lo and behold it was in the mail today!! I was so excited that I just had to rush back in and give it a whirl.. well, maybe not a whirl, but you know what I mean :P. Good thing I hadn't shaved in the past few days, lol.

My prep wasn't all that special, in fact I'd say I rushed it a little. It consisted of washing my face well with hot soapy water and then keeping a hot washcloth on the cheeks and jowls for a few minutes. The lather was just straight Williams whipped out of the mug into a nice foamy mixture and then applied generously to the face.

The shave in and of itself wasn't all that special.. but(!) I think that it's due to my inexperience as well as my lack of prep. My cheeks are pretty darn smooth, the jowls: not so smooth . There was a little pink in the foam as it came off the face, but by the time I was finished shaving I couldn't really see where the cuts were and they weren't still bleeding, so I decided to forego the styptic pencil. It was definitely better than the first cut I gave myself a few weeks ago: there were no flaps this time that I was aware of, lol. Overall, afterwards there is a little irritation of the skin, not really bad, but a nice little reminder. Ah well, it will get better.

I definitely noticed a few issues during the shave, namely that my foam would dry out on my face, leaving a nice sticky paste that would require reapplication of fresh soap. The other thing was how I handled the razor. I'm right handed, and even holding the razor in my left hand gives me a case of bad feelings, so it was a trick to shave the left side of my face with my right hand wielding the razor. My arm would keep getting in the way of the view, or it was difficult to really see the angle. Again.. this will get better as time goes on, although I'm not sure about the lather issue. Maybe that might be solved with a better soap or cream. We'll see. As far as technique goes, that will develop. Maybe it's time to get a copy of Lynn's dvd.

Oh yea, thanks for the hone GSS, you're the man!
