Thanked: 0First shave complete
Yeow.
Well its done. Honestly i was a little scared but i think ive had a pretty amazing first straight razor shave.
To be honest i only shave from my jaw line down, as i like to keep stubble on the rest. This weekend i will shave everything just to get some practice in.
I have a couple "nicks" but i beleive they are just from pimples or somthing of the sort.
I went twice over, WTG. The blade went really well but i think it could be a bit sharper as it caught on the hairs a few times.
My biggest problem was doing the left side of my face. The right side was perfect. Left side just seemed that little more difficult.
Now somthing else i noticed. My shaving cream and shaving brush both suck. They are American Crew but just dont seem to really create a good lather at all.
It was amazing and im without doubt hooked.
Now i need to buy a strop, brush & everything else!
Thanks to everyone for there help. been a splendid experience

Congrats on the first shave, btbam! Always nice to get that one behind you.
Did you shave right side w/ right hand and left side w/ left hand? Or did your dominant hand for the whole face?
Also, as far as the cream, you might try out some different soaps. The brush is really a minor part...I have a cheap $10 brush that works great for me. I really suggest trying Colleen's soaps at The Gentleman's Quarter. My personal favorite is the Cavendish Black. The soaps have a glycerin base and provide for a lasting, quality lather.
You could also check out THIS thread. A LOT of good brands of both soaps and creams listed there.
Have a good one, and congrats again.

Congratulations on your first shave! Like Chris asked earlier, did you shave the left side of your face with your hand? If so, try shaving with your left hand. It's really not too difficult. In fact, once you get the hang of it, it's a lot easier and feels safer than using your right hand.
The blade catching on hairs on your neck might be because of the direction the hairs are growing. I know on my neck I have a patch of hair that grows sideways from my adam's apple to my ear.

Thanked: 0Ok second shave down. tried with my left hand.. some parts easier.. some precision parts much harder
I also tried ATG. It did work well in some places, i did cut myself in around my adams apple though. Not too bad but did bleed for a while.
I think my problem is my cream doesnt lubricate very well, and if i dont shave onit within 5 seconds of applying it pretty much dissapears.
Also without a strop i can imagin my razor getting blunt very fast.
My blade is a Wapienica and i do really like it.
I might try stropping on some news paper.

Thanked: 11Sounds like your lather is too wet, there. I had the same problem before. Try to flick the brush some more before lathering next time.

What kind of soap are you using? sounds like it may be lathering technique, each soap is different and finding the right balance is crucial. Also would your name have anything to do with the band?
