Thanked: 0New Guy trying to figure out what strop to buy
I am trying to decide which strop to buy, do you guys have any suggestions? I would like to get one with both a canvas and leather side. Which one do you guys suggest. I am willing to pay a decent amount of money (50-80 bucks or so). Also, do you guys suggest 2 1/2 width or 3?
Thanks for all your help

I have a couple of tony miller strops that I can show you when we meet up! They are red latigo and are 24 by 2 1/2 inches! My favorite size! I'll bring along a three inch also!

Thanked: 267+1 You are not going to do any better than Tony. Given a price point his strops are just superior.

As another new person, my 2 cents is to hold off on a nice strop until you have a good bit of practice. Otherwise it may quickly become a ratty, scarred, was once nice strop. This was my experience, even being as careful as I could. I'm not saying to skip the nice strop, I think from what I read on Tony Miller's site that a practice strop comes with it - just saying you might want to use that for a while.

Thanked: 15The practice strop is only about $6 when you but it with something like an Artisan model. That is exactly what I have done and I won't be using the good one until I know I won't mess it up.

+1 more on Tony Miller strops.
The practice strop is also of pretty good quality. I am going to use mine as a travel strop once they lift the restrictions of carrying a straight in your luggage, or when I actually feel confident that the airline won't lose my bags. I never ended up cutting or nicking mine, but starting with this just made me feel better.
His paddle strops are exellent as well.
