This sucks!......
Okay, I have the shaving part down..... yeah the occasional nick here and there happen but I got it WTG, ATG, XTG, you name it, I got it....... but what I'm getting tired of is the 2 hours of stropping so that I can cut a hair......
the last time I spent with the newspaper..... it was awesome..... so I tried to do the same thing..... I thought I would be able to hit the strop and take my time and be done with it...... well after about 30 strokes, I couldn't cut the damn Hanging Hair!.... I had to hold both ends of the hair and force it over the razor to get it to "POP".....
I've got to be doing soething wrong...... The last time I took my time I must have gotten lucky!

Hi Stogie!
I was looking at your last posts trying to figure out how your razor was honed, and I couldn't determine if you had a honemeister do it or if you went for it yourself.
Take the following for what it's worth but if you had a jones to use your own hones , you may consider that the bevel may not be set all the way along your edge.
See this thread or this one for some great tips about checking and setting a good bevel, and refining an edge.
It may save you a lot of stroppin' in the end. Between the norton 4/8k, and the paper, you should be able to get there. Keep plugging, and don't get frustrated.
Hope this helps!

Thanked: 369This is one of those arts that comes in quantum leaps. Frustration after frustration, and then out of nowhere a huge success, and your learning curves drops dramatically. At first you won't know exactly what you did, but then it will happen again, and again. And then more frustration...for awhile.
Just stick around long enough for it to happen, and it will. And the frustrating episodes will shorten while the successes will increase.
The straight razor Gods are very benevolent to those deemed worthy. Those willing to put in the time.
Good luck
