Thanked: 271Alum Block for a better grip
I have a tip to pass on that I haven't seen in the forum (forgive me if I missed it). In addition to using the alum block as a stypic and aftershave, my greatest use is to improve my grip. When you are stretching your skin before the stroke, if your finger tips slide on your wet soapy face, just wet your finger tips and rub them on the alum block and they will grip the skin like Spiderman.

Thanked: 3I have bought my alum block from classic shaving also and is pricey at about $10. I need to buy some more and was looking at www.Tulumba.com. They sell a smaller piece for less than $3. Has anybody bought alum block from this place? Is it the same block, except for size?

Thanked: 369I'm sure no one remembers, but a while back I submitted a post about an old barber supply item called an "Alum Egg" used to improve a barbers grip while stropping. It was essentially an alum block in the shape of a tear, or egg, that had a brass swivel hook at the narrow end.
It was meant to be hung from the backbar so that the barber could reach over with his hand to apply before stropping.
Basically the same principle.
