Default Need advice on buying first razor

First of all, great to be here. I have a feeling I'll be spending too much time here in the future. I've been poring through all the great information available, but I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm looking to buy an entry-level str8 that is shave-ready, but I don't know how to choose or how much to pay. I've seen some vintage razors on ebay go for $6 and some go for $106 and in my ignorance I can't tell the difference. Help!

    Thanks,
    Colin

    Welcome aboard!

It all depends on what you can afford. Since you don't have a trained eye for what will be a good shaver once honed up, I'd recommend buying your first from one of the distributors affiliated with this site or from a member in the BST forum, their asking prices are reasonable.

+1 on this advice, with a couple of additional comments

I think a good starting point is something in the 5/8 or 6/8 size. Also, make sure that you are getting a razor that has been honed by someone who knows what they are doing. PM me if you need a recommendation, but if you look around the forum the guys who are the "Real Deal" are pretty identifiable.

I don't think there is anyone posting here at SRP that offers honing service and is anything less than excellent. So yeah, if you go over to the honing forum, you'll find a handful of guys offering their services (usually in their signatures).
