Thanked: 14It's HERE!!
My first straight razor arrived today. I bought it off ebay for 15 dollars shipped. It's a J.A. Henckels Twinworks "Platinum" Dry Hone Razor. The scales are not orriginal and they have "Popp" and "EL" carved on them. (probably why i got it so cheap) The blade appears to me to be in very good condition no rust or pitting just some good ole carbon steele petina. I'm so excited i'm having to resist trying to shave with it before i get it honed and what not because it cuts arm hair like butter. Anyway here are some pics, tell me what you think!
sorry for the crappy camera phone pics

From what I can tell from the pics, it looks like it would make a good shaver. If I bought a razor that was "cutting arm hairs like butter" right out of the gate, I most likely would inspect the blade under magnification and if it looked good, I'd strop that baby up and try a shave.

Thanked: 2209I agree with ChrisL, but be sure to strop that razor for 50 roundtrip laps on a plain leather hanging strop before you perform a test shave.

Thanked: 14well...i wish i had listened to what y'all said and stropped it before but...i am a weak man when it comes to new"toys" and "gadgets" and i couldn't resist so i took the plunge...it didn't go too bad. Just a little razor burn and only 2 knicks while trying to do my chin. I wasn't going for BBS so i only did WTG and it's growing back but i will say that my skin is just softer in general after shaving. But aye, i shall strop before i shave again tomorrow or wednesday. Thanks guys!!!

Thanked: 2209Ok, now give your face a rest for a couple of days then strop and shave again. Go easy and simple, just shave your cheeks at first. Use a light touch and have the spine approx 2 spine widths away from your skin, approx 30 degrees.
