Thanked: 0Where to keep the strop
I was just wondering what the best place to keep a strop is? Is there any harm in hanging it in the bathroom where it gets pretty humid? Are there advantages to keeping them in a more dry environment? Really just interested because i want to keep my strop in the best condition possible so it lasts long .

Thanked: 1587I've never had any issues with my strop hanging in the bathroom - it gets fairly foggy in there during winter, but we do have a pretty good extractor fan that clears the room fairly quickly once it's turned on.
Just for info., here and here are lists of where and how others hang their strops.

Thanked: 2209The main issue with strops is drying out. Keep some strop dressing at hand and use it. The Forum on Strops should have more info.

I've kept mine hanging in the bathroom with no problems. It's mounted on the wall behind me directly opposite the sink. I now flip it over with its good side facing the wall after I'm done stropping, however. Somehow I few drops of water splashed on the good horsehide side and although the water stain has no ill effect in stropping, it's obviously altered the aesthetics of the strop permanently.
So, I suggest keeping your strop away from the possibility of droplets or splashes of water.

I have kept mine hanging in the bathroom since I got it. I am the only one who uses the bathroom though so I don't worry about it getting too much moisture. I would be more worried about little sticky hands getting a hold of it more than anything. Just keep the door open and the fan on when you shower.

Thanked: 4942I have always hung my strops in the bathroom. I use a large coffee cup screw just under the sink and counter screwed in at the very top of the cabinet. Very handy and absolutely never a problem. I have rarely needed to put any treatment other than rubbing my palm on the strop.
Have fun,
Lynn
