Hello and thankyou!!
I've been interested in the art of straight shaving for a few years now, I just never took the leap. After coming across this site about a week ago, and MANY hours lost in productivity reading this forum and research on the bosses dime I have decided to take the plunge. I've always liked playing with dangerous toys; guns, knives, motorcycles, explosives, women, etc... and this just seems in the natural progression of things.
My background in tool and die/cnc machining should help with the honing/sharpening portion of this hobby, as handshaping endmills and sharpening them to the point where they cleanly cut metal teaches patience.
Ive gone out an bid on a couple of razors that look to be a good stepping off point to start learning with. I enjoy learning the hard way so I'll probably be posting for advise about my first bad shave in a week or two after I procure the necessary equipment for honing/stropping. Here is what I'm going to start with:
right now looks like around $5 a pop for something to learn how to hone properly, I've read through the FAQ's (i know i know it goes against the rules for a new member to actually read stickies and faqs but this is my face we are talking about here) I'll be purchasing a strop and a 4k/8k shortly. I have no problem taking my time to get these into shaveready order. (well that and i'm on a very limited budget) I know most would say go spend 50 or 75 on something new but I just cant justify it yet. I will succeed once I put my mind to it.
Again thankyou all for the wealth of knowledge you have put together here and I hope to become a productive participating member of the SRSociety shortly.
here goes nothing, and this is the best smiley i've ever seen
Bartman solingen: hard to tell from the pic but looks in pretty good shape
wester bro's solingen: a little more worn but looks like a straight edge on it.
So what do you think?

In general they look ok and they have good reputations. You can't see any blade detail so it's hard to say if the edges are in good shape or not but if the price is right I would say get them.
