Thanked: 0Good Deal?
I am looking to get into straight razor shaving and was wondering if this setup, with the added price of their honing service, is a good deal. http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/vsho...cat=142&page=1

As you can see...I'm new here also!
I think thats a fine setup and I almost bought one like it...I'm just too poor right now!
I also think you should definately buy the honing service...that way you know what its supposed to be like.
Like everybody else says...buy Lynns DVD.
oh....WELCOME!!!!

That looks like a fine set up. Dovo is a good blade and as far as the brush goes, pure badger is plenty soft if you have ever used a boar bristle brush. The bottom line is that if this is within your price range, it is all pretty decent gear that should serve you well. The narrower strop will mean learning the x-pattern early, and that is not a bad thing. Welcome to the SRP and be sure and let us know how you make out on your first few shaves!

For that kind of money I dont see how you could do any better. Do some web searching and compare prices of individual items and that should settle it. Be sure to get it honed and stropped at the shop, if the service is available. This will give you an idea of what sharp is while you practice strop and shaving techniques, and in your spare time study the hone threads. There will be a test... and it will be your face. Have fun and God bless, you'll love it once you get the hang of it.
